Memphis Symphony Orchestra Masterworks: Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Bernstein Candide

Cannon Center for the Performing Arts

Event Schedule

Sep 29, 2018: 7:30pm

Please join us in celebrating one of the most influential of all 20th Century Musicians on what would have been his 100th year of life, Leonard Bernstein! On this grand celebration, we will feature works from Bernstein as well as Price, Brubeck, and Tchaikovsky.

Florence Price, born in Little Rock in 1887, was the first lauded female African American Composer. She influenced many of the great African American composers, performers, and writers such as Margaret Bonds, Marion Anderson, and Langston Hughes.

We will also be presenting a beautiful piece written by Chris Brubeck, son of legend Dave Brubeck, which was written for the Boston Pops 15 years ago. This piece will showcase the virtuosity in Classical, Jazz, and Celtic styles with three great violinists including Tai Murray.

Tai Murray is one of the greatest violinists performing today and a champion for both women and African Americans in the art. Her interpretation of the Tchaikovsky concerto is nothing short of astounding.
